NAIA Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championship Preview

The GSAC has two teams who received an automatic bid to compete in the NAIA Men's and Women's Cross Country National Championship.  Below is the preview of GSAC teams and Individual Qualifiers competing in the Cross Country National Championship. 

Women’s Cross Country Preview
The 2023 Women’s Cross Country National Championship is being held this Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. PT. The course they will be running is the Fort Vancouver National Historic Championship Course in Vancouver, Wash. The Master’s Women’s Cross Country team received an automatic bid to the championship as the 2023 GSAC Meet Champions. In the final poll from November 7th, the Lady Mustangs are ranked #5 nationally. The GSAC also has Individual Qualifiers who will be running alongside the Mustangs. Emma Timmermans (Hope), Kate Baranski (Vanguard), Azalea Prince (Jessup), and MaryAlice Mitchell (Arizona Christian) are our 2023 Individual Qualifiers.

Men’s Cross Country Preview
The Men’s National Championship will follow the women’s race at 11:30 a.m. PT. Their course is an 8K with 4 loops at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Championship Course. As well as the women’s team, The Master’s Men’s Cross Country team also received an automatic bid to the NAIA championship. In the final Coaches’ poll, the Mustangs ranked #3 on the list just right behind Indiana Wesleyan and Milligan (Tenn.). The GSAC has four Individual Qualifiers on the men’s side: Evan Hernandez (Vanguard), Brandon Ericson (Arizona Christian), Nicholas Valle (Arizona Christian), and Luis Diaz (Hope). These runners qualified based on their times through the season.

Cross Country Championship Course
The course for this year’s Cross Country Championship is the Fort Vancouver National Historic Championship Course located in Vancouver, Washington. A single loop around the course is 2,000 m. The women will be running a 6K course with 3 loops, while the men will be running an 8K course with 4 loops. The races will conclude with an award ceremony at 1:00 p.m. PT.
