GLENDALE, Ariz. — The dynasty continues. The Master’s men’s cross country program extended its remarkable conference dominance by winning its 16th consecutive GSAC Championship on Saturday morning at Sahuaro Ranch Park. The Mustangs delivered another commanding performance, scoring just 23 points to top Embry-Riddle, who finished second with 32, and Arizona Christian, who took third with 88.
Senior Jack Anderson capped his conference career in style, claiming the individual GSAC title with a time of 24 minutes, 26 seconds over the 8-kilometer course. Anderson surged to the front early and steadily pulled away to win by 20 seconds, becoming the latest in a long line of Mustang runners to claim the individual crown.
The Mustangs’ victory was once again defined by depth and consistency. Senior Emmanuel De Leon finished third overall in 24:53, junior Isaiah Fastrup took fifth in 25:26, senior Timothy Anderson followed in sixth at 25:30, and sophomore Hunter Roy closed out the scoring in eighth with a time of 25:32. TMU’s five scorers all finished within 1:06 of one another, producing a 25:09 team average and a total time of 2:05:49—more than a minute faster than Embry-Riddle’s total of 2:06:58.
Embry-Riddle, last year’s runner-up as well, turned in a superb showing behind a balanced lineup that filled much of the top ten. Junior Ben Smith led the Eagles with a runner-up finish in 24:46, followed by senior Dillon Eisner in fourth (25:22), freshman Joseph Fox in seventh (25:32), and sophomores Nicolas Urquidez and Cam Shepherd in ninth and tenth, respectively. Their 52-second spread was the tightest of any team in the race, but The Master’s up-front scoring sealed the title once again.
Arizona Christian placed third with 88 points, led by senior Trevin Janssen, who finished 16th overall in 26:17, and sophomore Peter Brown, who followed close behind in 26:24. The Firestorm’s young core, which included three underclassmen in the scoring lineup, solidified their position among the GSAC’s top programs.
The All-GSAC Team, composed of the top 11 finishers, was dominated by runners from The Master’s and Embry-Riddle. The Mustangs placed six on the list—Jack Anderson, De Leon, Fastrup, Timothy Anderson, and Roy, and freshman Elijah Rojas—while the Eagles placed seven, including Smith, Eisner, Fox, Urquidez, Shepherd, and Jacob Ortiz (11th, 25:43).
Behind the top three, Hope International claimed fourth place with 139 points, led by sophomore Daniel Perez in 26:38, while Soka, OUAZ, Park Gilbert, and La Sierra completed the team standings.
With their latest title, The Master’s extended one of the most dominant streaks in NAIA cross country history, having now captured 16 straight GSAC men’s championships. The win not only cements their place atop the conference once again but also positions them as a strong contender heading into the NAIA National Championships later this month, where the Mustangs will look to defend the crown.
