The GSAC Softball All-Conference and Gold Glove teams were released Monday evening as the top players in the conference were recognized for their outstanding performances during the 2023 season. The GSAC coaches nominate and vote on the All-Conference based on players performances throughout the entire spring season. The Softball All-Conference team was led by GSAC Pitcher of the Year, Allie Puente from Hope International University. The GSAC Player of the Year was Kaylie Williams of Vanguard University. The GSAC Freshman of the Year went to Bri Humphries (San Diego Christian) and GSAC Coach of the Year was awarded to Alex Mascarenes of Hope International.
Allie Puente, the Pitcher of the Year, had another dominant season in the circle for the Royals. Puente comes in third in the NAIA with an overall ERA of 0.60 and she is first in wins (25) and leads the nation in strikeouts (335). The junior has 50 more strikeouts than the next closest competitor. Puente's resume makes for a strong case to win NAIA Pitcher of the Year as well.
GSAC Player of the Year, Kaylie Williams has been a monster at the plate for the Lions this spring. The sophomore is batting .477 which leads the league. Her slugging percentage of .852 is also best in the GSAC as well as her total bases (109). Williams also ranks inside the top-10 in runs (6th), hits (3rd), doubles (4th), triples (2nd), home runs (2nd), RBI's (3rd), and put outs (9th).
Bri Humphries, the Freshman of the Year, was right behind Williams with a .474 average during her first season of collegiate softball. Humphries knocked in 23 RBI's and five home runs. The rookie led the conference with a .524 on base percentage.
Alex Mascarenes, the GSAC Coach of the Year, led the Hope International Royals to a GSAC Regular Season Championship during his first season in Fullerton. Mascarenes recorded 35 wins during the regular season with 18 of those coming in conference play. The Royals and Mascarenes enter the GSAC Tournament as the #1 overall seed and hope to make a deep postseason run.
