Offensive Outburst Carries ACU Into Championship Thursday

PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Arizona Christian secured a 10-2 victory over Park Gilbert in an elimination game at the GSAC Softball Tournament at Eagle Softball Field on Wednesday. The first run rule of the tournament puts ACU into the Championship Thursday.

Park Gilbert was the first team on the board as scored in the opening inning when Alejandra Castro singled home Noelle Gumm for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Moments later, Lina Sanchez added a sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Arizona Christian responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Dayna Herrera delivered a run-scoring single to right. Morgan Bradford followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2. The Firestorm took the lead when Taylor Fogleman grounded out to second base, allowing Herrera to score, making it 3-2.

The offensive surge featured six runs in the second inning. Elena Garcia singled home a run, and then Sierra Lauko had a two-run double to left field. Fogleman kept the momentum going with a two-RBI single before Brenna Henry capped the inning with an RBI double to right-center, pushing Arizona Christian’s lead to 9-2.

The Firestorm added one more run in the fifth inning when Jyden Miles singled through the left side to score the decisive run and secure the final 10-2 margin.

Arizona Christian was led by Fogleman, who went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, while Miles had a strong performance, collecting three hits and driving in a run.

Hannah Butcher earned the win in the circle for ACU, pitching five innings while allowing two runs on nine hits and striking out three.

ACU will enter Championship Thursday needing to defeat Embry-Riddle two times to win the GSAC Tournament title. That first chance comes when the first game starts at noon.
