PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Embry-Riddle secured a 7-1 victory over Park-Gilbert in the GSAC Softball Tournament winner’s bracket semifinal game on Wednesday at Eagle Softball Field in Prescott, Arizona.
Embry-Riddle struck first in the opening inning when Katie Jamieson reached on an error, allowing Leah Salas to score. The Eagles extended their lead in the third inning as Autumn Sulusi launched a two-run home run to left-center, making it 3-0.
Park Gilbert responded in the sixth inning when Ilena Rivera singled to right field, driving in the Buccaneers' run.
Embry-Riddle added to the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run homer from Salas. Jade Bayless capped the scoring with an RBI fielder’s choice that secured the final 7-1 margin.
Salas finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Kealey Myhre added two doubles and scored twice. Rivera provided the lone RBI for Park Gilbert, while Noelle Gumm tripled and scored their only run.
Embry-Riddle’s Vanessa Brink earned the win, pitching six strong innings while allowing just one run on five hits and striking out three. Claire Streeter closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.
The victory moves Embry-Riddle into Championship Thursday, where they will have two chances to win one game to secure their first GSAC Tournament title. The first game will begin at noon.
