Saint Katherine Wins Back to Back GSAC Tournament Titles

The University of Saint Katherine defended their 2021 tournament title by winning the 2022 GSAC Tournament on Thursday morning. The second-seeded Firebirds swept fifth-seeded San Diego Christian 4-0 to earn a spot in the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.

USK got off to a quick start in doubles with their #1 and #2 doubles teams winning easily. Laura Fernanda and her partner Nadine Heckert won their set 6-3 and teammates McKenna Mountain and Evi Shellkens won their set 6-2.

The Firebirds would get more assistance in singles action from two of the four players mentioned above.

Chahenda Galal would score the second point for the Firebirds after winning her match 6-1, 6-4. Nadine Heckert helped earn her second point of the day and third team point by beating SDC's Franzi Niederle 6-0, 6-1. Laura Fernanda would clinch the match for USK after winning her match 6-3, 7-6.

The Firebirds will now head to Mobile, Alabama and represent the GSAC at the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship. The tournament will begin on May 17 at the Mobile Tennis Center.
