Firebirds Win GSAC Women's Tennis Tournament Championship

The University of Saint Katherine are the GSAC Women's Tennis Tournament Champions. After a 45 minute rain delay to start the morning, the GSAC Women's Tennis Championship match was finally able to begin. It was well worth the wait. After a three and half hour marathon match, #3 Saint Katherine upset #1 San Diego Christian by a score of 4-3. 

The Hawks got on the board first winning the number two and one doubles. Tomi Felix and Barbara Damiani won their match 6-2 and Angela Rinaldi and Valentina Sottile won their set 6-3. In singles play, Saint Katherine tied it up right away with McKenna Mountain taking #2 singles 6-2, 6-2. San Diego Christian battled back to win the next two points as Tatiana Harvey and Tomi Felix won #4 and #5. From there, the Firebirds would take the rest of the points winning #6 and #1. The final deciding match came down to Nadine Heckert (USK) and Valentina Sottile (SDC). Heckert won the first set 6-3 followed by Sottile's comeback win of 6-4. Heckert was dominant in the third set as she won 6-2 and clinched the GSAC Championship for Saint Katherine.

The Firebirds have earned the conference's automatic berth into the NAIA Women's National Championship which will begin on May 18 and conclude May 22.
