PRESCOTT, Ariz. – In a competitive matchup at Eagle Softball Field to open the GSAC Softball Tournament, No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle secured a 5-3 victory over No. 3 seed Arizona Christian.
Arizona Christian struck first in the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead. Brenna Henry reached on a fielder’s choice bunt, allowing a run to score. Shortly after, Jyden Miles singled to left field to make it 2-0.
Embry-Riddle responded in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back solo home runs from Autumn Sulusi and Jade Bayless, tying the game at 2-2.
Arizona Christian regained the lead in the fourth inning when Rachel Martin drove home another run for a 3-2 advantage. However, Embry-Riddle mounted a decisive rally in the sixth inning. Lily Anderson singled through the left side to tie the game. Moments later, Leah Salas delivered a clutch two-RBI single to center field to give Embry-Riddle a 5-3 lead.
Embry-Riddle’s Vanessa Brink earned the win, pitching a complete game while allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out six. Arizona Christian’s Dayna Herrera took the loss despite a solid outing, going six innings and striking out five.
The win moves Embry-Riddle into the winner’s bracket semifinal game on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Arizona Christian will play in the tournament’s first elimination game tonight at 6 p.m.
