Westmont Captures Eighth Straight GSAC All-Sport Award

The 2019-20 GSAC All Sports Award will stay in Santa Barbara for the eighth consecutive season. Westmont College has defended its title yet again by winning five of the seven conference regular season championships in a shortened season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Warriors clinched the top spot with championships in Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer (tied with Vanguard University), Women's Volleyball (tied with Menlo College), Men's Basketball, and Women's Basketball. The Master's University claimed the Men's Cross Country title and the Vanguard Lions claimed the Women's Cross Country title in the Fall of the 2019 season.

"We decided to award the All Sports trophy this year based on the performance of Westmont through the Winter Sports season and the projections for the Spring Sports," said Commissioner Mike Daniels.  "It is difficult to project how the other universities might finish, however the conference office was pretty confident in Westmont securing the top spot once again."

Westmont recorded the highest scoring average ever at 10.29 in a shortened season. The Warriors were 1.58 points ahead of second place, The Master's University. The Mustangs finished with an average of 8.71. Vanguard University placed third just ahead of Menlo College, edging out the Oaks by 0.07. Rounding out the rest of the GSAC was Hope International, William Jessup, OUAZ, Arizona Christian, San Diego Christian and Life Pacific.

Schools are awarded 10 points for winning the regular season conference title, 9 points for placing second and so on down the line.  Schools are also given one point for each sport they sponsor in the conference.  The total points are then divided by the number of sports to arrive at the scoring average.
