HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – The top-seeded OUAZ Spirit won their first GSAC Beach Volleyball Tournament title with a 3-2 win over No. 2 seed The Master’s on Friday afternoon.
OUAZ – the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA – scored the first point of the match when Shayna Martinez and Grace Hughes secured a 21-19, 21-19 win in the No. 4 pairs. The Master’s had the match even after the first wave with a win by Zoe Yates and Faith Wada in the No. 3 pairs.
The second wave began with Olivia Andersh and Eliana Dean winning the No. 1 pair match 21-13, 21-12 to give OUAZ a 2-1 lead. The Spirit secured the title when Diana Enriquez and Shea Marovich won the No. 5 pairs 21-15, 21-13.
Grace Colburn and Violet Avila from The Master’s earned the final point with a 21-17, 21-17 win in the No. 3 pairs.
The win clinches OUAZ a spot in the 4th Annual NAIA Women’s Beach Volleyball National Invitational on April 24-26, in Greeneville, Tenn.
