On Tuesday afternoon, the GSAC released the 2023 Men's and Women's Tennis All-Conference teams. The teams consisted of the top players in the conference as voted on by the GSAC coaches. The men's All-Conference team is headlined by Player of the Year, Luis Hochenauer of Menlo College. The women's All-Conference team is led by Marielena Muench of Westcliff University.
Luis Hochenauer, a sophomore from Menlo College, is 5-1 on the season in single matches at the #1 spot for the Oaks and 6-3 in doubles matches also at the #1 spot. Hochenauer, a transfer from SDC, has helped ignite the Menlo tennis program during their first season of competition in the NAIA. Hugo Abril of Arizona Christian University, has been selected as the Freshman of the Year on the men's side. Abril has the most #1 singles wins during conference play with five. Hugo and his doubles partner Jonas Wand, are 5-2 during conference play at the #1 doubles position. Mark Basham from Westmont College, is the men's Coach of the Year. Basham in his 13th season, led the Warriors to second seed in the GSAC Tournament this year with a 5-2 record in conference play.
Marielena Muench, from Westcliff University, is 5-2 on the season in singles matches at the #1 spot for the Warriors. Muench is tied for second in the conference in singles wins. She is also 3-0 in #2 singles matches. Maldini Simic of Hope International University was voted as the women's Freshman of the Year after a stellar start to her collegiate career. Simic and her doubles teammate Julia Ramos are 5-1 on the season at the #1 doubles spot. Simic is also a perfect 5-0 in singles competition during the 2023 season. Ben Cabell in his first season at Menlo College was voted the women's Coach of the Year by his peers. Cabell led the Oaks to a 5-1 conference record and achieved the second seed in the conference tournament.
