Hawks Crowned GSAC Men's Tennis Tournament Champs

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The San Diego Christian College men's tennis team defeated the Arizona Christian University Firestorm 4-0 in the Golden State Athletic Conference Championship to repeat as tournament champions! The victory completes an undefeated GSAC season for the Hawks and coach Jim Bodor.

SDCC's Chris Papa and Nick Nienhaus set the tone for the match with a fast 6-0 win in doubles. Arizona Christian nabbed the number two win 2-6 over Robin Van den Hoek and Laurenz Grabia, but Angel Herreros and Julius Kaufmann's 6-4 victory sealed the opening doubles team point for the Hawks.

Nienhaus was on a mission in the singles competition. His 6-2, 6-0 win over ACU's Jonas Wand put San Diego Christian up by two right away. Angel Herreros followed quickly behind Nienhaus posting a 6-2, 6-2 win over the Firestorm's Anders Vasquez.

With Papa, Grabia, and Van den Hoek still battling, SDCC veteran Julius Kaufmann's 6-2, 6-4 win over Andre Millet sealed the match victory and the GSAC Tournament Championship for the Hawks.

With the win, the Hawks have clinched the GSAC's automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament which will begin May 17 in Mobile, Alabama.
