ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — The GSAC announced its Players of the Week presented by Athletic Solutions on Monday, recognizing seven student-athletes for their performances from Sept. 14-20.
The Master’s collected five of the seven weekly awards. Isabella Amet was named the Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week, while teammate Kate Wagner earned Setter of the Week honors for the second time this season. OUAZ’s Keira Adrian was selected as the Defender of the Week.
In men’s soccer, The Master’s forward Trent Rickard received the offensive award and Embry-Riddle goalkeeper Sam Macdonald earned the defensive honor. The Master’s swept the women’s soccer awards, with Maddy Traylor being named the Offensive Player of the Week and Katie Snow receiving Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Below is a closer look at each of this week’s award winners.
Women’s Volleyball
Attacker of the Week: Isabella Amet, The Master’s
Amet led The Master’s to a pair of conference sweeps while averaging 4.17 kills per set with a .235 hitting percentage.
The senior outside hitter from Knoxville, Tennessee, opened the week with 16 kills in a three-set victory over Hope International. Amet hit .256 and added six digs and four blocks while averaging 6.2 points per set.
She followed with nine kills, nine digs and four blocks in a road sweep of Embry-Riddle. Amet finished the week with 25 kills, 15 digs and eight blocks across six sets. She also handled 32 reception attempts without an error.
Setter of the Week: Kate Wagner, The Master’s
Wagner earned her second GSAC Setter of the Week award of the season after directing The Master’s to consecutive three-set victories.
The junior setter from Chandler, Arizona, totaled 61 assists and averaged 10.17 assists per set. She recorded 30 assists, seven digs and one service ace against Hope International before posting 31 assists and five digs at Embry-Riddle.
Wagner finished the two-match week with 12 digs, three blocks and one service ace in addition to her 61 assists.
Defender of the Week: Keira Adrian, OUAZ
Adrian contributed defensively from both the front and back rows as OUAZ remained undefeated in GSAC play with victories over La Sierra and Life Pacific.
The junior outside hitter from Eagle, Idaho, handled 57 reception attempts without an error and finished the week with a 1.000 reception percentage. She also recorded 38 digs and seven blocks across nine sets.
Adrian collected 23 digs in a four-set victory over Life Pacific and recorded three blocks in matches against La Sierra and Azusa Pacific. She averaged 4.22 digs and 0.78 blocks per set during the three-match week.
She also contributed offensively with 26 kills, including 12 kills without an error and a .545 hitting percentage against Life Pacific.
Men’s Soccer
Offensive Player of the Week: Trent Rickard, The Master’s
Rickard scored five goals and recorded two assists across two matches for The Master’s.
The junior forward from Valencia, California, scored the Mustangs’ goal in a 2-1 loss at Hope International. He followed with four goals and two assists in a 13-1 victory over Life Pacific, accounting for 10 points in the match.
Rickard finished the week with 12 points on 16 shots. He placed nine attempts on goal, converted a penalty kick and scored the game-winning goal against Life Pacific.
Defensive Player of the Week: Sam Macdonald, Embry-Riddle
Macdonald made 14 saves and allowed only one goal across 180 minutes as Embry-Riddle earned two conference victories.
The graduate student goalkeeper from Dunfermline, Scotland, recorded seven saves in a 3-1 victory over La Sierra. He added seven more saves and stopped every shot he faced in a 1-0 road victory over Arizona Christian.
Macdonald completed the week with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage. His shutout against Arizona Christian helped the Eagles finish the week with a 2-0 record.
Women’s Soccer
Offensive Player of the Week: Maddy Traylor, The Master’s
Traylor scored four goals and added two assists as The Master’s earned a pair of conference shutouts.
The senior forward from West Covina, California, scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 road victory over Hope International. She took six shots and placed four on goal in the win.
Traylor followed with three goals and two assists in a 10-0 victory over Life Pacific, finishing the match with eight points. She recorded eight shots and placed five on goal.
Traylor totaled 10 points, 14 shots and nine shots on goal during the week. She scored on 28.6% of her attempts and placed 64.3% of her shots on target.
Defensive Player of the Week: Katie Snow, The Master’s
Snow did not allow a goal across more than 143 minutes in goal as The Master’s recorded two conference shutouts.
The junior goalkeeper from Arlington, Washington, made five saves and played all 90 minutes in the Mustangs’ 1-0 road victory over Hope International. She then played the opening 53:46 of a 10-0 victory over Life Pacific without facing a shot on goal.
Snow finished the week with a 0.00 goals-against average and a 1.000 save percentage while helping The Master’s complete a 2-0 week.
