Around the GSAC

The 2026 GSAC women’s soccer season moves into its first full week after four conference teams appeared in five matches during the opening stretch. Embry-Riddle and La Sierra each opened the season with victories, Park Gilbert split its first two matches and Life Pacific played to a draw in its season opener.

Two GSAC teams begin the season nationally ranked. Embry-Riddle is No. 3 in the NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, matching the highest ranking in program history. The Eagles have appeared in 37 consecutive national polls dating to Sept. 14, 2022, and have been ranked 95 times overall. The Master’s opens the season at No. 25 and has appeared in 73 NAIA polls all-time.

Embry-Riddle opened its season with a 3-1 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.), while La Sierra also began 1-0 with a victory over Justice. Park Gilbert defeated Evergreen State 2-1 before falling 3-2 to Northwest, and Life Pacific played Stanton to a 1-1 draw.

The first GSAC Women’s Soccer Players of the Week selections will be announced beginning Aug. 31, with awards for offensive and defensive players.

Park Gilbert’s Ava Fike leads the GSAC with two goals, four points and one game-winning goal, while teammate Yadira Bernal has a conference-best two assists. Embry-Riddle’s Jamie Brandon leads the GSAC with eight shots, and Fike leads with three shots on goal. In goal, Embry-Riddle’s Maile Kahele leads the conference with a 1.00 goals-against average and .750 save percentage, while Park Gilbert’s Journey Morimoto has a GSAC-high eight saves.

Seventeen matches involving GSAC teams are scheduled for the week ahead. No. 3 Embry-Riddle returns to action Sunday against Oregon Tech, while No. 25 The Master’s begins its week Thursday against College of Idaho before facing Occidental on Saturday. Park Gilbert has three matches on the schedule, beginning Thursday against Nelson (Ariz.), and Life Pacific faces Westcliff on Wednesday and Southern Oregon on Saturday. Arizona Christian opens its season Friday against Redlands before facing Azusa Pacific on Saturday.

No. 3 Embry-Riddle opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Cumberland (Tenn.). The Eagles produced 33 shots, including 12 on goal, and enter the week leading the GSAC in goals, points, shots and shots on goal per game.

Kaitlyn Roskopf, Kaylie Speer and Natalia Sepulveda each scored in the victory, while Sophia Sink recorded an assist. Roskopf scored the game-winning goal, and Jamie Brandon finished with a conference-high eight shots.

Goalkeeper Maile Kahele made three saves and enters the week leading the GSAC with a 1.00 goals-against average and .750 save percentage. Embry-Riddle ranks in the top three of all nine listed conference statistical categories.

Life Pacific opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Stanton. Nancy Hinojosa scored the Warriors’ goal, with Kayley Buchanan providing the assist.

Life Pacific finished with 14 shots and seven shots on goal. Julianna Pedro led the Warriors with three shots, while Mercedes Sibrian and Stevie Spencer each put two attempts on goal. Goalkeeper Natalie Retama made two saves and ranks second in the GSAC with a 1.00 goals-against average.

Park Gilbert split its first two matches, defeating Evergreen State 2-1 before dropping a 3-2 decision to Northwest.

Ava Fike scored twice in the victory over Evergreen State and enters the week leading the GSAC with two goals, four points and one game-winning goal. She also leads the conference with three shots on goal and ranks second with seven shots. Yadira Bernal recorded two assists during the opening week and shares the team lead with four points.

Journey Morimoto made eight saves against Northwest and leads the GSAC with eight saves overall. Park Gilbert also leads the conference in assists per game and corner kicks per game and ranks in the top three of all nine listed team statistical categories.
