SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Master's completed a straight-set win over Arizona Christian on Tuesday night, beating the Firestorm 25-14, 25-18, 25-17 at The MacArthur Center in a GSAC Men's Volleyball Championship semifinal match. The Mustangs controlled the match from the opening set, finishing with a .395 hitting percentage and 41 kills in the 3-0 victory.
The Master's established the tone early by taking control of the first set and never allowing Arizona Christian to find sustained offensive rhythm. The Firestorm were able to stay closer in the second set, improving their hitting percentage to .185 and remaining within reach early, but the Mustangs continued to score efficiently and limit mistakes. In the third set, The Master's separated quickly again and closed out the match with another efficient stretch, hitting .458 with 13 kills and only two errors.
Service pressure was one of the biggest factors in the sweep. Trace Oswald led The Master's with six service aces and helped fuel a team total of nine, repeatedly disrupting Arizona Christian's serve-receive and forcing out-of-system swings. The Mustangs also got strong production across the lineup. Isaac Seltzer finished with a team-high 12 kills, Oswald added 11 kills and 17.5 points, Garrett Beall recorded eight kills on 10 swings for a .700 hitting percentage, and Cooper Saelzler contributed five kills while hitting .500.
Setter Matthew Hamm directed the offense throughout the night, piling up 38 assists while helping The Master's generate balanced scoring from pin to pin. Hamm also added six digs, while Preston Schmidt led all players with nine digs and Oswald chipped in seven more. The Mustangs finished with 32 digs to Arizona Christian's 21.
Arizona Christian finished with 20 kills on a .104 hitting percentage and had difficulty matching The Master's depth over the course of the night. Asher Ganem was the Firestorm' most consistent attacker, posting a team-high 10 kills on .316 hitting and 10.5 points. Jarrett Spartz and Aydan Pimentel added three kills each during Arizona Christian's stronger second set, and Josiah Flores contributed 17 assists, but the Firestorm could not string together enough long runs to change the match.
The Master's closed with 41 assists, 41 kills and just one reception error. By the end of the third set, the Mustangs' combination of efficient hitting, steady distribution and relentless serving had kept Arizona Christian from mounting a significant push.
