The Great Southwest Athletic Conference has announced its Basketball Players of the Week. Highlighting four outstanding performances across men’s and women’s basketball. This week’s honorees are from OUAZ, Hope International, and The Master’s. These awards are presented by Athletic Solutions.
Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Carter Gittens, OUAZ
Carter Gittens delivered a dominant offensive performance to lead OUAZ to a perfect 2–0 week, earning Men’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honors. The redshirt sophomore forward averaged 23.0 points per game while shooting an efficient 56.7 percent from the field and an impressive 62.5 percent from three-point range. Gittens showcased his scoring versatility with an 18-point effort against La Sierra before exploding for 28 points on the road at Life Pacific, knocking down six three-pointers in the win.
Beyond his scoring output, Gittens made a major impact in other areas of the game. He averaged 9.5 rebounds per contest, providing a strong presence on the glass, and anchored the defense with six total blocks and a steal over the two games. His ability to score efficiently while contributing defensively and on the boards proved instrumental in OUAZ’s success and highlighted his all-around value during the week.
Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
CJ Fisher, Hope International
CJ Fisher was a defensive catalyst for Hope International, earning Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of impactful performances. In a thrilling 81–80 victory over The Master’s, Fisher filled the stat sheet with five steals, a block, and 13 rebounds, including seven on the defensive end. He capped off the night in dramatic fashion by converting a putback basket with five seconds remaining to seal the win.
For the week, Fisher averaged 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game, consistently disrupting opposing offenses. His physicality, anticipation, and effort on the defensive end helped set the tone for Hope International, while his rebounding limited second-chance opportunities. Fisher’s defensive presence and timely plays were key factors in the Royals’ success.
Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Amira Austin, Hope International
Amira Austin powered Hope International to two key victories and claimed Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honors with a dominant all-around showing. The senior forward averaged 18.0 points and 15.0 rebounds per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field. She recorded back-to-back double-doubles, scoring 17 points with 15 rebounds against The Master’s and following with a 19-point, 15-rebound performance versus Benedictine Mesa.
Austin’s consistency on the boards continued an impressive streak, as she has now posted double-digit rebounds in seven straight games. In addition to her scoring and rebounding, she added two blocks per contest and provided a steady interior presence on both ends of the floor. Her ability to control the paint and produce offensively was central to Hope International’s success during the week.
Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Alli VanKooten, The Master’s
Alli VanKooten proved to be a defensive anchor for The Master’s, earning Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week honors despite the team splitting its two games. The junior center averaged 12.5 rebounds per game, with the majority coming on the defensive glass, and recorded five steals and three blocks over the week. Her activity and awareness consistently challenged opposing offenses.
VanKooten also notched her eighth and ninth double-doubles of the season, highlighting her ability to pair defensive impact with offensive contribution. She grabbed 15 rebounds in the win over Embry-Riddle and followed with another strong effort against Hope International. Her rim protection, rebounding, and defensive versatility made her one of the most influential players on the floor throughout the week.
