Davis Sets New Single Game RBI Record as Royals Sweep Buccaneers

Fullerton, CA – The No. 4 Hope International University baseball team (32-6, 16-2 GSAC) put on an offensive show as they swept their doubleheader against the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers to open a four game series as they won 21-4 and 18-2 on Friday at home at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA.

Game 1:
Trey Seeley (9-0) picked up his ninth win throwing 5 shutout innings allowing just five hits while walking one and striking out six. Spencer Davis led the Royals offense going 4-for-6 with two home runs and a Royals single game record 9 RBIs.

Seeley shutdown the Buccaneers while the Royals offense used a big bottom of the second to take control of the game. The Royals would score their first run on an error before Davis crushed a three run shot over the right field wall, his second of the season to put the Royals up 3-0. Later in the inning David Shackelford came through with a two out RBI single before Matthew Pinal ripped an RBI double off the center field wall to give the Royals a 6-0 lead. 

The Royals then broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth as Julian Francois launched his seventh home run of the season, a two run shot to give the Royals an 8-0 lead. Two batters later Pinal smashed his seventh home run of the season for two more runs to put the Royals up 10-0. Later in the inning Colby Moran delivered an RBI single to center to make it 11-0. Davis and Shackelford would then add RBI single to increase the Royals advantage to 13-0. Moran then crushed his seventh home run of the season, a two run bomb in the bottom of the fifth to make it 15-0.

The Buccaneers looked for an answer and eventually struck for three runs in the top of the seventh to make it 15-3. The Royals weren't done either as they loaded the bases and emptied the bench for Enrique Lopez who delivered an RBI single to left to make it 16-3. Davis then crushed a grand slam for his second home run of the game to give the Royals a 20-3 lead. The Buccaneers would make it 20-4 in the top of the eighth but again the Royals answered as Davis delivered a two out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to set a new single game record for RBIs as the Royals went on to win 21-4.

Game 2:
Josh Landry (7-0) picked up his seventh win pitching 5 innings allowing one unearned run on two hits while walking two and striking out eight. Mario Tostado led the Royals offense going 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs and two home runs.

Landry shut down the Buccaneers holding them without a hit through the first three innings while the Royals took control with a big bottom of the second. With two on and one down Tostado ripped a two run double to centerfield to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. Nathan Estrada would then score on a wild pitch before Amari Bartee launched his ninth home run of the season to left to make it 4-0. Then with two outs Pinal ripped an RBI double to centerfield to give the Royals a 5-0 lead. 

The Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Colby Moran ripped an RBI double to left followed by Tostado who crushed his fifth home run of the year, a two run bomb to make it 8-0. Two batters later Bartee then launched his second home run of the game and team leading eleventh of the year to put the Royals up 10-0. Shackelford then connected on the Royals third home run of the inning as they took a commanding 11-0 lead. The Royals then turned to their bench as Willson Dunn came through with a two run single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 13-0. Ivan Barragan then crushed a two run shot to left center to put the Royals up 15-0.

The Buccaneers continued to look for an opening and eventually scored in the top of the fifth after a blown call to make it 15-1. The Royals weren't done scoring though as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth for Alejandro Torres who walked to make it 16-1. Ryder Stowasser then delivered a sac fly before Trotter Boston ripped an RBI double to left to give the Royals an 18-1 lead. The Buccaneers would get another run in the top of the sixth to make it 18-2. Luke Wallin then pitched a shutout top of the seventh as the Royals won 18-2.

The Royals wrap up their GSAC series against Park-Gilbert with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 AM at home at Duane Winters Field in Fullerton, CA. Seniors will be honored between the games.
