MESA, Ariz. – No. 2 seed Arizona Christian used a big day at the plate for a 17-6 victory over No. 3 seed The Master’s in the GSAC Baseball Tournament winner’s bracket semifinal on Tuesday at Hohokam Stadium.
Arizona Christian wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the first inning when Kane Kiaunis grounded out to shortstop, allowing the first run to score. The Firestorm extended their lead in the second inning with a two-RBI double from Jaylen Edmonds, followed by a two-RBI single from Trey Tarver, making it 5-0.
The offensive surge continued in the fourth inning when Nathan Greene delivered a three-run double, pushing the lead to 10-0. ACU added six more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-RBI double from Kiaunis and an RBI single from Sean Garcia.
The Master’s responded in the seventh inning with a series of home runs, as Tommy Gwinn, Jack Drew, Austin Young, and Ty Beck each went deep, cutting the deficit to 16-5.
Arizona Christian tacked on one more run in the ninth inning with an RBI single from Matthew Beckworth, sealing the victory.
Offensively, Arizona Christian was led by Tarver, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Kiaunis, who contributed four RBIs on two hits. Edmonds also had a strong performance, collecting two RBIs and scoring twice.
Arizona Christian’s Frank Wierman earned the win, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing just two runs and striking out five.
Arizona Christian moves to Championship Wednesday where they will have two chances to win one game to win the tournament title.
