RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- La Sierra delivered a strong showing Friday afternoon, defeating No. 4-seed Embry-Riddle 4-0 in the GSAC Men’s Soccer Semifinal to advance to the conference championship match. The top-seeded Golden Eagles scored twice in each half and dictated play from start to finish, blending efficient attacking sequences with organized defensive pressure to reach their first GSAC title game.
The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when midfielder Sean Palena served a pass to Vinicius Goncalves, who tucked home the finish to give La Sierra an early advantage. The Golden Eagles struck again just before halftime as substitute Christopher Remily provided instant offense, finding space behind the defense and slotting a shot into the net in the 40th minute for a 2-0 lead.
La Sierra’s pace and precision on the counterattack sealed the result late. In the 85th minute, Alexander Muñoz finished from close range to make it 3-0, and defender Damian Jimenez capped the scoring three minutes later with a goal. The Golden Eagles outshot the Eagles 14–10 overall and 7–4 on goal while controlling possession and limiting Embry-Riddle’s second-half rhythm.
Embry-Riddle managed 10 total shots and five corner kicks but rarely broke through against the composed La Sierra defense. Golden Eagles goalkeeper Abraham Perez turned away four shots en route to the clean sheet, including key stops on efforts from Cesar Battistini and Francesco Busini. The Eagles’ best spell of pressure came midway through the second half, but Perez and his back line stayed firm to preserve the two-goal cushion.
With the victory, La Sierra improved to 13-3-1 overall and punched its ticket to the GSAC Championship match. The Golden Eagles will host Benedictine Mesa on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Riverside for the conference crown. Embry-Riddle concluded its season at 7-6-5.
