The Great Southwest Athletic Conference has announced its Players of the Week following standout performances across men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.
Men’s Soccer Player of the Week – Gergo Varga, Benedictine Mesa (Sr., F/D)
Gergo Varga delivered a stellar week for Benedictine Mesa, propelling the Redhawks in their late-season playoff push. The senior from Nyíregyháza, Hungary, scored in back-to-back matches, totaling three goals in two games. Varga opened the week with a goal in a 3-3 draw against Embry-Riddle before netting both goals — including the dramatic game-winning header in the final two minutes — in a 2-1 victory over Arizona Christian. Averaging 1.5 goals and 3.0 points per game, Varga’s leadership and clutch performances kept the Redhawks’ postseason hopes alive.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week – Dustin Rogers, Arizona Christian (So., GK)
Sophomore goalkeeper Dustin Rogers anchored the Firestorm defense with a commanding performance in goal. In a 4-0 shutout win over OUAZ, Rogers recorded seven saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season. Playing all 90 minutes, he posted a perfect 1.000 save percentage and a 0.00 goals-against average, helping Arizona Christian maintain its strong defensive form in GSAC play.
Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Samantha Wright, Embry-Riddle (Jr., MF)
Samantha Wright was at the center of everything for Embry-Riddle, contributing directly to all six goals scored by the Eagles this week. The junior midfielder tallied two goals and four assists over two matches, including the decisive goal that clinched the GSAC regular season title in a 1-0 victory over Park-Gilbert. Wright also recorded a goal and four assists in a 5-0 win over Benedictine Mesa, averaging 4.0 points per game and demonstrating her ability to both create and finish scoring chances for the league-leading Eagles.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week – Jordan Gentile, OUAZ (So., GK)
OUAZ goalkeeper Jordan Gentile earned her first career win and shutout in a standout performance against Arizona Christian. The sophomore made three key saves in the 1-0 victory, keeping the Firestorm off the scoreboard and securing a crucial GSAC win for the Spirit. Gentile’s composure and 1.000 save percentage marked a breakout moment in her collegiate career.
Women’s Volleyball Attacker of the Week – Isabella Amet, The Master’s (Jr., OH)
Junior outside hitter Isabella Amet powered The Master’s to a pair of straight-set victories, producing 26 kills (4.33 per set) while hitting an impressive .396 for the week. Against Park-Gilbert, Amet was nearly unstoppable with 17 kills and a .577 hitting percentage, committing just two errors. Her offensive consistency and efficiency were key in extending The Master’s winning streak and maintaining their dominance in GSAC play.
Women’s Volleyball Setter of the Week – Kate Wagner, The Master’s (So., S)
Sophomore setter Kate Wagner continued to orchestrate The Master’s offense with precision, totaling 48 assists (8.00 per set) in two 3-set sweeps. Her playmaking generated a .341 team hitting percentage over the week. Wagner’s 26 assists and .455 hitting performance against Benedictine Mesa highlighted her versatility and leadership on the court, helping the Mustangs stay among the conference’s elite teams.
Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Week – Amey Rainaud, OUAZ (Sr., L/DS)
Senior libero Amey Rainaud anchored the OUAZ defense in a crucial week that saw the Spirit claim two GSAC road victories. Rainaud amassed 39 digs (4.88 per set) while maintaining a stellar .980 reception percentage. Her relentless back-row play kept rallies alive and fueled OUAZ’s offensive rhythm, underscoring her role as the team’s defensive cornerstone.
