GSAC Women's Basketball All-Conference Team 2023-2024

The Golden State Athletic Conference Women's Basketball All-Conference team was released on Wednesday morning and is headlined by Melissa Akullu of Vanguard University.  TMU's Madeline Cooke was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.  Her teammate, Nicole Chuang, a point guard from The Master's University, was selected as the Freshman of the Year.  The Lions leader, Russ Davis, was voted by his peers as the GSAC Coach of the Year.  The All-Conference team is voted on by GSAC coaches and consists of the top 10 players in the conference.

Melissa Akullu, a senior for the Lions, has been dominant all season.  The two time Player of the Year leads the GSAC in scoring and is the only player averaging over 20 points per game.  Akullu shoots over 60% from the field which is also tops in the conference.  The native of Uganda averages a whopping 13.7 rebounds per game.  Akullu has recorded 75 steals this season which is nine more than the next closest player.

Madeline Cooke, a senior for the Mustangs, is a nightmare for opposing teams in the paint.  The center has swatted 96 shots this season which is #1 in the GSAC by a landslide.  Her next closest competitor is at 32 blocked shots.  Cooke averages 3.6 blocks per game and is constantly altering the opposing teams game plan with her presence around the rim.  The senior also averages 10.6 rebounds per game.

Nicole Chuang, a guard from TMU, has been selected as the Freshman of the Year.  Chuang has averaged 12 points per game in her first season in Santa Clarita.  The freshman is also top-10 in assists and plays over 30 minutes a game as a true freshman.

Russ Davis, an NAIA legend, has been awarded his 11th GSAC Coach of the Year honor after his Vanguard Lions won the conference regular season title.  Davis has racked up 13 GSAC titles in his 27 seasons in Costa Mesa.  Davis is currently first in active NAIA coaches with an overall career winning percentage of 79% and his team will be the #1 overall seed in this week's conference tournament after going 12-2 during the regular season.
