The 2022-23 Golden State Athletic Conference Men's Basketball All-Conference Team was released on Tuesday morning and features the 12 of the top student-athletes in the conference. The team is headlined by Kaleb Lowery from The Master's University as he was selected as the GSAC Player of the Year. The GSAC Freshman of the Year was Lowery's teammate, Kamrin Oriol. The conference had Co-Defensive Players of the Year with Victor Ohia Obioha of The Master’s University and Mikah Blackwell of Arizona Christian University. The GSAC Men's Basketball Coach of the Year was Jeff Rutter from Arizona Christian University.
Sophomore standout Kaleb Lowery does it all for the Mustangs. The 6-8 forward averaged a double-double across 28 games this season for TMU. Lowery is averaging 15.3 points per game to go along with 10 rebounds per game. The 15 points a night is good for sixth in the conference while the 10 boards a contest is tops in the GSAC. The native of San Diego is also fourth in field goal percentage shooting a tick above 60% for the season. Lowery has recorded 25 blocks throughout the 2022-23 season which is good for third place in the conference. Lowery and the Mustangs will enter this week's GSAC Men's Basketball Tournament as the #2 seed and await the winner of the Hope International and Jessup first round matchup.
Victor Ohia Obioha of The Master’s University and Mikah Blackwell of Arizona Christian University were voted Co-Defensive Players of the Year in the conference. Blackwell, a junior from Virginia, was fifth in the conference in total blocks racking up 25 swats this season. The 6-6 forward also recorded 20+ steal during ACU's title run. Ohia Obioha led the GSAC in blocks with 54 denials this year. The senior was also top 10 in the conference in rebounding.
Kamrin Oriol, the GSAC Freshman of the Year, has been a pleasant spark off the bench for The Master's University this season. Oriol is averaging a notch over 10 points per game and 18.6 points per 40 minutes. The native of St. Petersburg, Florida has connected on 45 triples this season in just 21 games. Oriol is shooting the rock just above 38% beyond the arc.
Jeff Rutter has collected his second straight GSAC Coach of the Year award and the third of his career after his Firestorm put together a 24-4 regular season record. ACU is once again the #1 overall seed in the conference tournament and currently ranks #2 in the NAIA. Coach Rutter has been able to string together five straight 20+ win seasons. Rutter also recorded his 250th career victory earlier this year.
