  • January 4, 2010
    • Player of the Week
      • Colleen Planeta – Point Loma Nazarene
      • Sophomore – 6-2 – Forward – Surprise, Ariz.
      • Senior forward Colleen Planeta led NAIA No. 3-ranked Point Loma Nazarene to 4 wins last week, including 3 at the Surf N Slam Classic where she was named Tournament MVP. For the week, Planeta had 102 points (25.5 ppg), 32 rebounds (8.0 rpg), 18 blocked shots, 12 steals, and 5 assists. She was 44-for-66 (.667) from the field, including 3-for-8 (.375) from the 3-point arc, and 11-for-17 (.647) at the free throw line. In the win against Bridgewater State MA, she recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. In a conference game against Hope International, Planeta had 28 points, shooting 13-for-20 (.650) from the field.

      • Senior Jenna Reed scored 43 points (21.5 ppg), grabbed 13 rebounds (6.5 rpg), 10 assists (5.0 apg) and 5 steals as The Master’s won both of its conference games last week. For the week, Reed shot 15-for-28 (.536) from the field, including 5-for-11 (.455) from the 3-point arc, and 8-for-9 (.889) at the free throw line. In the victory over Concordia, she had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. In the upset at No. 14-ranked Westmont, Reed tied a season-high with 25 points.

      • Junior – 5-4 – Guard – Northridge, Calif.
      • Junior C.J. Hill scored 40 points on 13-for-18 shooting (.722), including 7-for-10 (.700) from 3-point range, and was 7-for-9 (.778) at the free throw line as No. 12 Azusa Pacific won both of its conference games last week. She also dished out 12 assists, had 4 steals and grabbed 2 rebounds. She scored a career-high 22 in the win at Fresno Pacific, knocking down 8-of-9 shots including all 3 from the arc. The guard then tallied 18 points, 12 of which came from beyond the arc, and played a primary role in Azusa Pacific’s upset of No. 4 Vanguard, which snapped the Cougars’ 11-game losing streak to the Lions. Azusa Pacific become the first GSAC team since 1991 to score 100 points against Vanguard.

      • Junior Jessilyn Conicelli averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds as Biola picked up a pair of GSAC victories. For the week, she shot 19-for-26 (.731) from the field and 7-for-12 (.583) at the line. She scored 22 points and added 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season in the victory over No. 23 The Master’s. Conicelli scored a game-high 23 points and had 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in the win at California Baptist.

      • Junior forward Alex Moore-Porter scored 52 points (26.0 ppg), grabbed 16 rebounds (8.0 rpg), and had 5 steals, 4 assists and a block as No. 10-ranked Azusa Pacific won both of its conference games last week. For the week, she shot 20-for-36 (.556) from the field, including 4-for-8 (.500) from the 3-point arc, and 8-for-9 (.889) at the charity stripe. In the win against Westmont, she posted her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Moore-Porter, who is the leading scorer in GSAC games, hit the game-tying 3-pointer with a minute to go, part of a 30-point effort, to lead the Cougars to a 68-64 road win at Concordia.

      • Champ Hood – Hope International
      • Junior – 6-0 – Center – Norwalk, Calif.
      • Junior Champ Hood registered 55 points (27.5 ppg) and 16 rebounds (8.0 rpg) last week as Hope International split its GSAC games last week. For the week, the center shot 24-for-31 (.774) from the field. In the 60-59 win against Concordia, Hood had 24 points including the game-winning shot. In the double-overtime 92-88 loss at Westmont, she shot the game-tying free throw to send the game into overtime and went on to record a double-double with 31 points and 10 rebounds.

      • Junior – 5-10 – Forward – Seattle, Wash.
      • Junior forward Alex Moore-Porter tallied 43 points (21.5 ppg), 17 rebounds (8.5 rpg), 5 assists and 2 steals as Azusa Pacific won both of its conference games against NAIA Top-20 teams and retained sole possession of first place in the GSAC. In the win at No. 18-ranked Biola, she had 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Moore-Porter then topped 1,000 career points with 21 in the 81-80 overtime win over No. 5 Point Loma Nazarene. The milestone basket tied the game at 70-70 with less than 2 minutes remaining to help force overtime, where she drilled the game-winning 3-pointer with 8 seconds left.

      • Sophomore – 5-10 – Guard – Culver City, Calif.
      • Senior guard Liah Ector tallied 42 points (21.0 ppg), 25 rebounds (12.5 rpg), 11 assists (5.5 apg), 3 steals and 3 blocks as No. 8-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won both of its GSAC games last week. For the week, she shot 12-for-21 (.571) from the field and 18-for-25 (.720) at the free throw line. Against Concordia she scored 17 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At Westmont she scored 26 points, 11 coming from the stripe, and grabbed 16 boards while dishing out 7 assists, blocking 3 shots and grabbing a pair of steals. Liah Ector was named the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

      • Senior guard Bridgette Reyes averaged 26 points, 6 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals in 2 conference wins for No. 3-ranked Vanguard last week. Reyes was 18-for-26 (.692) from the field, including 2-for-4 (.500) from the 3-point arc, and 14-for-16 (.875) at the free throw line. In the win at Concordia, Reyes had 25 points, on 8-for-9 shooting, as well as 9 assists, 7 steals, and 6 rebounds. In the victory against Westmont, she had 27 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. She leads the Lions in scoring, assists, steals, and free throws made this season. Reyes was named the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
