2009 WOMEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

  • September 7, 2009
    • Defensive Player of the Week
      • Emily Evanson – California Baptist
      • Sophomore – 5-9 – Goalkeeper – Bellevue, Wash.
      • Sophomore Emily Evanson picked up a second straight shutout in the win over Trinity International with 2 saves and played the first half in the win over Menlo. The CBU defense has posted nearly 290 consecutive minutes of scoreless soccer.
    • Offensive Player of the Week
      • Theresa Broad – Azusa Pacific
      • Sophomore – 5-8 – Forward – Walnut, Calif.
      • Senior Theresa Broad tallied 11 points last week with an assist in the win against Menlo and 5 goals in a 6-0 win over Trinity International IL to tie an Azusa Pacific single game scoring record. She tallied a first-half hat trick to help the NAIA’s No. 4-ranked Cougars take a 4-0 halftime lead, then added a pair in the second half for the final margin.

      • Jillian Foss – Vanguard
      • Sophomore – 5-5 – Goalkeeper – Oceanside, Calif.
      • Senior keeper Jill Foss notched a pair of saves against the NAIA No. 12-ranked Cal State San Marcos Cougars in Vanguard’s 1-0 upset win on the road. It was the third shutout of the season for Foss and 19th of her Vanguard career. The victory moved Vanguard to 3-0 this season.
    • Offensive Player of the Week
      • Ashley Sherr – Fresno Pacific
      • Sophomore – 5-7 – Forward – Fresno, Calif.
      • Senior Ashley Sherr tallied 10 points last week as Fresno Pacific won both of its games on the road. She scored the golden goal in the first overtime to defeat Southern Oregon 1-0 and then scored all 4 goals in a 4-0 shutout of Simpson. Sherr was named the NAIA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

      • Emily Evanson – California Baptist
      • Sophomore – 5-9 – Goalkeeper – Bellevue, Wash.
      • Senior Emily Evanson posted her 19th career shutout, making 7 saves, in No. 1-ranked California Baptist’s 3-0 win at No. 2 Concordia OR, and 2 saves in a double-overtime scoreless tie with No. 10 Simon Fraser BC. The 19 shutouts sets a school career record. The Lancer defense has held opponents scoreless for 579 consecutive minutes. Evanson was selected as the NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

      • Sophomore – 5-7 – Forward – Palmdale, Calif.
      • Sophomore Robyn Estrada helped The Master’s win 3 games last week, scoring a goal in each game. Against Eastern Oregon, she scored a goal and then assisted on the eventual game-winner in the 2-1 contest. In the 2-0 win at Westminster UT, she scored the game-winning goal. She finished the week with an unassisted goal in the final 2 minutes of the double overtime victory over No. 17-ranked Carroll MT.

      • Amanda Durocher – The Master’s
      • Senior – 5-9 – Goalkeeper – Roy, Wash.
      • Senior goalkeeper Amanda Durocher kept No. 14-ranked The Master’s alive with 5 saves, 2 of which came in the second half at crucial times, as the Mustangs held on to defeat No. 23 Point Loma Nazarene 2-1. One save was a diving stop to her left, and the other came as she deflected a bullet just under the crossbar.
    • Offensive Player of the Week
      • Rachel Hook – Concordia
      • Sophomore – 5-4 – Forward – Newbury Park, Calif.
      • Sophomore forward Rachel Hook scored 6 goals for Concordia last week. She scored the Eagles’ lone goal in a tie at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical AZ. Hook then scored 5 goals in a school record 17-0 victory over Southwestern AZ.

      • Ashley Aranda – California Baptist
      • Sophomore – 5-6 – Goalkeeper – San Clemente, Calif.
      • Making her first start since Aug. 25, 2007, senior goalkeeper Ashley Aranda made 3 saves and helped the No. 1-ranked Lancers post their ninth straight shutout with a 1-0 victory at No. 13 The Master’s. California Baptist’s 10-0-1 record this year is it best start since going 11-0 in 2003.

      • Eva Solis – California Baptist
      • Freshman – 5-2 – Midfielder – Santa Ana, Calif.
      • Freshman midfielder Eva Solis factored in all 3 of NAIA top-ranked California Baptist’s goals in last week’s 2 victories. She scored the first goal in a 2-0 shutout of Biola and then assisted on the insurance goal. Solis’ goal at No. 13 The Master’s was the game-winner in the 80th minute. She now has 4 goals and 8 assists (16 points) in the first 11 games.

      • Senior – 5-5 – Goalkeeper – Oceanside, Calif.
      • Senior goalkeeper Jillian Foss notched 4 saves in Vanguard’s 4-1 upset over No. 1-ranked California Baptist, handing the Lancers their first loss of the season. Recording 1 save while blanking Embry-Riddle Aeronautical AZ, Foss notched her sixth shutout of the year and 22nd of her career.

      • Sophomore – 5-3 – Midfielder – Mesa, Ariz.
      • Midfielder Gabriela Valles notched a hat trick in No. 9-ranked Vanguard’s 4-1 upset over No. 1 California Baptist. Then the sophomore added 2 goals and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Embry-Riddle Aeronautical AZ. Valles’ 5-goal week, makes her the Lion’s leading scorer this season and helped Vanguard to improve to 9-1 overall. Valles was selected as the NAIA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

      • Freshman – 5-11 – Goalkeeper – Whittier, Calif.
      • Tiffany Kracy had an outstanding week with 12 saves and allowed only 1 goal in 2 games helping Point Loma Nazarene win both of its GSAC contests. Against No. 3-ranked California Baptist, the freshman goalkeeper stopped 8 shots on goal in the Sea Lion’s 2-0 upset victory. At Westmont, Kracy had 4 saves before the Sea Lions prevailed in double overtime 2-1. Kracy was named the NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

      • Freshman – 5-4 – Midfielder – Sacramento, Calif.
      • Freshman midfielder Amanda Couch helped Vanguard earn a tie and win over 2 top-20 teams last week. Couch scored Vanguard’s only goal in the 1-1 tie with No. 17 Condordia and tallied a goal and an assist in the 4-1 victory over No. 20 The Master’s. The Lion’s recent success has raised the team to a program-high No. 6 NAIA ranking.

      • Junior – 5-7 – Goalkeeper – Kentfield, Calif.
      • Junior goalkeeper Roxanne Love’s strong performance in goal helped the Warriors to a 2-1 double-overtime road-victory at No. 2 Azusa Pacific, with 8 saves and only 1 goal allowed in 109:59 minutes of play. She also had a fine performance in an overtime road-victory at Hope International with 7 saves in 99 minutes in goal. Her goals-against-average for the week was 0.43. Love was selected as the NAIA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

      • Jameisha Washington – Westmont
      • Junior – 5-4 – Midfielder – San Diego, Calif.
      • Jameisha Washington scored 2 of Westmont’s 3 goals last week as the Warriors’ won both of it GSAC games on the road. The junior midfielder scored the first of Westmont’s goals in a 2-1 double overtime win at No. 2-ranked Azusa Pacific. Then Washington scored the golden goal in a 1-0 win at Hope International in the final 30 seconds of the first overtime.

      • Jillian Foss – Vanguard
      • Senior – 5-5 – Goalkeeper – Oceanside, Calif.
      • Tying twice last week, No. 6-ranked Vanguard received 2 solid efforts in goal from senior keeper Jillian Foss who totaled 7 saves while giving up only 1 goal in 220 minutes of work. She tallied 4 saves in the 1-1 tie at Biola. Foss then recorded her eighth shutout of the season in the scoreless tie against Westmont, turning back all 3 shots on goal.

      • Amanda Lammers – California Baptist
      • Sophomore – 5-6 – Midfielder – Menifee, Calif.
      • Sophomore midfielder Amanda Lammers had 3 goals and 3 assists in 2 wins last week for No. 8-ranked California Baptist. She had 2 assists against San Diego Christian, and followed that with her first career hat trick and an assist against No. 21 Concordia. Lammers was named the NAIA Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

      • Freshman – 5-11 – Goalkeeper – Whittier, Calif.
      • Goalkeeper Tiffany Kracy made 16 saves and only allowed 1 goal as No. 14-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won both of its GSAC tournament games. She turned back all 5 shots on goal in a 1-0 shutout against The Master’s in the first round. The freshman then stopped 11 shots on goal in a double-overtime semifinal contest at No. 3 Azusa Pacific. The match was decided by a shootout and Kracy stopped 2 Cougar attempts helping Point Loma advance to the tournament finals 3-1 on penalty kicks.

      • Freshman – 5-4 – Midfielder – Sacramento, Calif.
      • Freshman midfielder Amanda Couch headed in the golden goal for Vanguard in a win at No. 7-ranked California Baptist in double overtime of the GSAC Tournament semifinals. The victory, Vanguard’s 12th of the season, propels the Lions into the GSAC Championship game.
