Ector Earns GSAC and NAIA Weekly Awards

Senior guard Liah Ector tallied 42 points (21.0 ppg), 25 rebounds (12.5 rpg), 11 assists (5.5 apg), 3 steals and 3 blocks as No. 8-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won both of its GSAC games last week. For the week, she shot 12-for-21 (.571) from the field and 18-for-25 (.720) at the free throw line. Against Concordia she scored 17 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At Westmont she scored 26 points, 11 coming from the stripe, and grabbed 16 boards while dishing out 7 assists, blocking 3 shots and grabbing a pair of steals. Liah Ector was named the NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Johnson is GSAC Men’s Basketball Honoree

Junior guard Justin Johnson scored 37 points (18.5 ppg) to go along with 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals as No. 3-ranked Concordia won both of its conference games and increased its lead in the GSAC standings. For the week, he was 12-for-22 (.545) from the field, including 2 made 3-pointers, and was 11-for-14 (.786) at the line. In the win at Point Loma Nazarene, he had 16 points and 3 assists. In Concordia’s homecoming win over No. 4 Biola, Johnson had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Johnson is third in the conference averaging 17.2 points per game on the season.

Moore-Porter Earns Weekly Women’s Award

Junior ~ 5-10 ~ Forward ~ Seattle, Wash.

Junior forward Alex Moore-Porter tallied 43 points (21.5 ppg), 17 rebounds (8.5 rpg), 5 assists and 2 steals as Azusa Pacific won both of its conference games against NAIA Top-20 teams and retained sole possession of first place in the GSAC. In the win at No. 18-ranked Biola, she had 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Moore-Porter then topped 1,000 career points with 21 in the 81-80 overtime win over No. 5 Point Loma Nazarene. The milestone basket tied the game at 70-70 with less than 2 minutes remaining to help force overtime, where she drilled the game-winning 3-pointer with 8 seconds left.

Senior Greg Scott recorded 63 points (31.5 ppg), 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals as Vanguard split its conference games last week. For the week, the guard shot 22-for-31 (.710) from the field, including 7-for-10 (.700) from 3-point range, and 12-for-13 (.923) at the free throw line. In the win against Hope International, Scott had 28 points on 9-for-12 shooting, 4 assists and 2 steals. In the loss at Fresno Pacific, he had 35 points on 13-for-19 shooting including 5 made 3-pointers, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
