A Look Back . . . to the Fall Sports

The GSAC enjoyed another excellent fall sports season. In men’s cross country, Westmont won the GSAC meet and advanced to nationals where it finished 25th overall. In women’s cross country, GSAC champion Azusa Pacific advanced to nationals with 3 other GSAC teams that received at-large berths. Biola finished in second place, Azusa Pacific in fifth, Concordia in ninth, and Point Loma Nazarene in 17th. Fresno Pacific hosted and participated in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Championship along with Biola, which advanced to the quarterfinals, and The Master’s, which competed in the championship game. In women’s soccer, the GSAC sent 4 teams to the final site for the NAIA Championship after winning their opening round games. Vanguard lost to fellow GSAC opponent Point Loma Nazarene in the second round, while California Baptist made it to the quarterfinals. Azusa Pacific and Point Loma Nazarene played to a 0-0 semifinal tie, with Point Loma Nazarene advancing to the national championship match on penalty kicks. An impressive 7 GSAC teams qualified for the NAIA Volleyball Championship Tournament with Fresno Pacific winning the tile. Fresno Pacific 3-Peats in Volleyball

Fresno Pacific is the 2009 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Champion. This is the third consecutive national championship for the Sunbirds and the fifth overall. Fresno Pacific received individual honors for sophomore outside hitter Martina Gregusova who was selected as the NAIA Tournament MVP and Coach Dennis Janzen who was named the NAIA Tournament Coach of the Year. Fall Finals Filled with GSAC Teams

The GSAC has a team in each of the NAIA championship tournament finals which will be played today. The Master’s will compete against No. 1 seed Lindsey Wilson KY in the NAIA Men’s Soccer championship at 3:00 pm at Fresno Pacific. Unseeded Point Loma Nazarene will play against No. 2 seed Lee TN in the NAIA Women’s Soccer Championship at 5:00 pm (PST) in Decatur, Alabama. Top-seeded Fresno Pacific defeated GSAC rival Concordia in a 5-game match this morning to advance to the finals at 6:00 pm (PST) against Georgetown KY in Sioux City, Iowa. Also, The Master’s will be playing in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Women’s Soccer Championship at 12:00 pm (PST) in Kissimmee, Florida.

GSAC Soccer in the Semis

The GSAC sent 7 men’s & women’s soccer teams to the NAIA Soccer Championship Tournaments. GSAC champion The Master’s, Biola and Fresno Pacific advanced to the men’s tournament final site which is hosted by Fresno Pacific, while GSAC champion Azusa Pacific, California Baptist, Vanguard and Point Loma Nazarene traveled to the women’s tournament final site in Decatur, Alabama. Three teams still remain. The Master’s will compete in the men’s semifinals against No. 3 seed Rio Grande OH. Azusa Pacific and Point Loma Nazarene will face each other in the women’s semifinals.
