Softball All-GSAC Team & Playoffs Announced

The All-GSAC Softball Team and GSAC Tournament schedule have been announced. From California Baptist, Nikki Lowe is the GSAC Softball Player of the Year, Tory Ferreira is the GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Year, and Mike Smith is the GSAC Softball Coach of the Year. GSAC Champion California Baptist will host Bracket A and second-place Point Loma Nazarene will host Bracket B beginning on Tuesday, April 28. Azusa Pacific Wins GSAC Track & Field Meets

The Azusa Pacific men’s and women’s track and field teams each won their respective meets at the 2009 GSAC Track & Field Championships which were hosted by Point Loma Nazarene on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25. Coach Eric Schwab of Fresno Pacific was named the GSAC Women’s Track & Field Coach of the Year. On the men’s side, Coaches Kevin Reid of Azusa Pacific and Bryan Wilkins of Vanguard were selected as the GSAC Men’s Track & Field Co-Coaches of the Year. Senior Jen Whitten led Azusa Pacific to 4 victories on the week, including the program’s first sweep of No. 3-ranked Point Loma Nazarene in 9 years. For the week, she was 7-for-15 (.467) at the plate with 3 runs, a double, 2 RBI, and 2 stolen bases.

Senior Jimmy Mittleberger was 9-for-14 (.643) at the plate with 5 runs, a double, 2 home runs, and 12 RBI as Concordia won 3-of-4 games last week. In the win at La Sierra he was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored, 2 home runs and 7 RBI. In the sweep of California Baptist, Mittleberger was 5-for-7 (.714) at the plate with 2 runs, a double and 5 RBI.
