Planeta Triples as Women’s Player of the Week

Junior Colleen Planeta has been selected as the GSAC Women’s Baskeball Player of the Week for the third time this season as she led No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene to a pair of conference wins last week and extend its winning streak to 15 games in conference play, and 19 games overall. She averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 7.5 blocks, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 18-for-34 (.529) from the field, including 2 made 3-pointers. At Concordia, Planeta scored 21 points, pulled down 7 rebounds, blocked 5 shots, and dished out 3 assists. Against No. 13-ranked Westmont, she posted the first triple-double in memory at Point Loma Nazarene, scoring 22 points with 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Planeta leads the NAIA in scoring with 21.81 points per game and is in second place in blocks with 4.89 per game.

Costain Collects Men’s Weekly Honor

Senior Kingsley Costain recorded 38 points (19.0 ppg), 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals as No. 11-ranked Concordia won both of its GSAC games last week and remained in sole possession of second place in the conference. For the week, he shot 14-for-28 (.500) from the field, including 7-for-14 (.500) from the 3-point arc, and 3-for-4 (.750) at the line. In the win against Point Loma Nazarene, Costain had 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. In the win at Biola, he had 16 points and 2 steals.

Franz is Women’s Player of the Week

Amanda Franz helped No. 8-ranked Point Loma Nazarene win both of its conference games last week and extend its win streak to 17 games. Franz scored 37 points with 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals. For the week, she shot 14-for-26 (.538) from the field, including 8-for-10 (.800) from 3-point range. At San Diego Christian, Franz scored a team-high 23 points. Against No. 18 Azusa Pacific, she scored 14 points, dished out 6 assists, and had 5 rebounds.

West Wins Men’s Player of the Week Award

Senior Marcus West recorded 46 points (23.0 ppg), 11 rebounds (5.5 rpg), 5 assists, and 6 steals as No. 8-ranked Fresno Pacific won both of its conference games last week to remain in first place in the GSAC with a 3-game lead. For the week, he was 16-for-27 (.593) from the field, including 10-for-19 (.526) from 3-point range, and 4-for-4 at the line. In the win at Vanguard, he had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. In only 20 minutes of play against Hope International, West had 34 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals. In that game he shot 12-for-13 (.923) from the field, including 8-for-9 (.889) from the 3-point arc.
