
Fresno Pacific Women's Volleyball Team
Fresno Pacific is the 2008 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Champion for the second straight year and the fourth time in program history after defeating conference rival
Concordia CA. Fresno Pacific came back from a 2-set deficit by winning the final 3 set in the first-ever 5-set championship match in NAIA history. The Sunbirds finished the season 35-1 with their only loss coming in the final game of pool play after the team had already locked the number one spot for its pool. The Sunbirds have now won the most volleyball championships among current NAIA members. GSAC teams have won 5 of the past 6 championships (Fresno Pacific in 2003, 2007 and 2008 and California Baptist in 2004 and 2005). Other GSAC teams joining Fresno Pacific in this year’s semifinals were
Biola,
California Baptist, and
Concordia.
Azusa Pacific,
Point Loma Nazarene and
Vanguard also advanced to the national tournament this year for a record 7 teams representing the conference, where all 7 made it out of pool play and 5 advanced to the quarterfinals. From Fresno Pacific,
Thaos Julio was named the
Tachikara National Tournament Most Valuable Player and
Coach Dennis Janzen was selected

It’s an All-GSAC final 4 at the NAIA Volleyball Championship for the second year in a row. All 7 GSAC volleyball teams participating in the tournament advanced out of pool play to the 12-team single-elimination bracket. Then the same 4 teams as last year,
Fresno Pacific,
Biola,
Concordia, and
California Baptist, advanced to the semifinals.

7 GSAC teams have qualified for the
NAIA Volleyball Championship Tournament being held Dec. 2-6, in Sioux City, Iowa.
Point Loma Nazarene and
Vanguard won their NAIA Championship Opening Round matches to advance to the final site, while No. 1-seed
Fresno Pacific, No. 2
Biola, No. 3
Concordia, No. 7
California Baptist and No. 8
Azusa Pacific received automatic bids. The tournament begins with pool play with the top 2 teams from each of the 6 pools advancing to bracket play.
