PLAYERPAIGE POWELL ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Senior ~ 5-7 ~ Center Field ~ Chula Vista, California Senior Paige Powell hit 13-for-22 (.591) at the plate with 12 runs, 7 doubles, 3 home runs, 10 RBI, 2 walks and a steal as NAIA No. 3-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won 5 of its 6 games last week. She was 2-for-6 (.333) at the plate in the doubleheader sweep at Hope International with 3 runs and 2 doubles. In the 4 games at the Sun West Tournament, she hit 11-for-16 (.688) with 9 runs, 5 doubles, 3 home runs and 10 RBI. SOFTBALL PITCHERJENNIFER OLVERA ~ Vanguard University Senior ~ 5-7 ~ RHP ~ Gilroy, California Senior pitcher Jennifer Olvera made 3 starts on the mound for No. 10-ranked Vanguard this week, pitching 7 full innings in each game. She earned shutouts in 2 GSAC games and received a no-decision in the Lions' eventual win over Dominican. Olvera struck out 35 batters and allowed 14 hits and 1 run in 21 innings, while walking 3 batters. The pair of wins improves her overall record to 11-0 this season. BASEBALL
PLAYERHAWKINS GEBBERS ~ Biola University Junior ~ 6-2 ~ Second Base ~ Brewster, Washington Junior Hawkins Gebbers extended his team-best hitting streak to 8 games with 6 hits in 12 at bats as Biola won 2-of-3 GSAC games last week. Gebbers, who leads the team with a .395 average, went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI in a win at Westmont. He delivered the big blow in Biola's 8-1 win over No. 2-ranked Azuza Pacific with a 3-run home run in the fourth inning. Over the last 8 games, Gebbers is batting .536 (15-for-28) with 3 homers and 13 RBI. BASEBALL
PITCHERBRIAN ALBERT ~ Biola University Junior ~ 5-10 ~ RHP ~ Norco, California Junior Brian Albert allowed just 1 run and 1 walk on 4 hits while striking out 9 over 7 innings in Biola's win over No. 2 Azusa Pacific. Albert did not allow a hit through the first 5-2/3 innings to the Cougars, who entered the weekend with a .345 team batting average. Albert was named the NAIA Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
