PLAYERS OF THE WEEK SOFTBALL PLAYER CHANTAL MILLARD ~ California Baptist University Sophomore ~ 5-4 ~ 2B/SS ~ Riverside, California Sophomore Chantal Millard hit .467 (7-for-15) with 9 runs, 6 RBIs, 2 home runs and 4 stolen bases to lead the NAIA's No. 1-ranked Lancers to 6 wins last week as they remained perfect at 25-0. After hitting her first career home run last week, she hit 2 more this week and now leads the team with 4. She has hit safely in all 19 games she has played in this year. SOFTBALL PITCHER CANDICE THOMAS ~ California Baptist University Junior ~ 6-5 ~ RHP ~ Barstow, California Junior Candice Thomas was nearly perfect in 3 appearances. She fired 18 scoreless innings, running her consecutive scoreless innings streak to 39. She allowed 5 hits and struck out 22 while not giving up a single walk. In addition to that, she tossed consecutive one-hitters against Hope International and Concordia OR. SOFTBALL PLAYER CAITLYN SENKBEIL ~ Concordia University Sophomore ~ 5-4 ~ SS ~ Dana Point, California Sophomore Caitlyn Senkbeil hit .652 (15-for-23) with 10 runs, 10 RBIs, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs and a stolen base as Concordia won 4 of its 6 games last week. In the sweep of Hope International, Senkbeil was 6-for-8 at the plate with 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. In the Sunwest Tournament, Senkbeil had 2 doubles in the win over Knox IL and a double, triple, and homer in the victory over Illinois College. Senkbeil had 2 homers in the second loss to Biola. She now has a school record for home runs in a season with 12. Senkbeil was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week. SOFTBALL PITCHER KATIE McCOLEMAN ~ Point Loma Nazarene Senior ~ 5-4 ~ RHP/SS ~ Grand Terrace, Calif. Senior Katie McColeman picked up 3 more wins for No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene last week. In 22.2 innings of work she recorded a 0.31 ERA. McColeman allowed just 1 earned run and 4 walks while striking out 13. In the win over No. 25 Biola, she threw a shutout giving up only 3 hits. In the Sunwest Tournament, she struck out 4 batters against Knox IL and 3 against St. Mary MN. McColeman, a full-time hitter, also batted .333 for the week and scored 3 times. McColeman was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week. March 27, 2006 SOFTBALL PLAYER RUTH ATKINS ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Senior ~ 5-8 ~ 3B ~ Santa Rosa, California Senior Ruth Atkins was key to 3 of No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene's wins in 4 games against ranked opponents last week. She hit .462 (6-for-13) with 3 runs, 2 doubles, 1 home run, and 8 RBI. She drove in the game-winning run in the first game against No. 13 Concordia. In the second win over Concordia, she had 3 hits, including a home run, and 4 RBI. In the second game against No. 1 California Baptist, Atkins drove in the tying run with a sixth-inning double. She later scored the winning run in handing California Baptist its first loss of the year. Atkins was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week. SOFTBALL PITCHER CANDICE THOMAS ~ California Baptist University Junior ~ 5-8 ~ RHP ~ Barstow, California Junior Candice Thomas allowed just 1 earned run and 2 walks while striking out 7 in 14 innings pf work to pick up 2 wins for California Baptist and improve to 19-0 on the season. In the win over Vanguard, she gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1. In the win at No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, she allowed just 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. That win gave California Baptist an NAIA-record 32-game winning streak. Thomas was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week. April 3, 2006 SOFTBALL PLAYER GEANIE JENKINS ~ California Baptist University Junior ~ 5-8 ~ 1B ~ Moreno Valley, California Junior Geanie Jenkins batted .500 (9-for-18) at the plate with 7 runs, 6 RBI, 3 doubles and 3 home runs as No. 1-ranked California Baptist won 5-of-6 games at home last week. In the sweep of No. 25 Biola, she had a hit and a run. In the split with No. 11 Concordia, Jenkins had 5 hits in 7 at bats with 4 runs, 3 RBI, 2 doubles and 2 home runs. In the doubleheader wins over Hope International, she had 3 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 1 double and 1 home run. Jenkins tied a school single-season record with her tenth home run of the season against Hope International. Jenkins was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week. SOFTBALL PITCHER SARAH SHERMAN ~ California Baptist University Junior ~ 5-2 ~ RHP ~ Glendale, California Junior Sarah Sherman allowed just 1 run and 6 hits while striking out 24 with a 0.47 ERA in 3 mercy-ruled wins over conference opponents. Against No. 25-ranked Biola, Sherman gave up 2 hits and struck out 4. In the 14-1 win against No. 11 Concordia, she gave up 4 hits, 2 walks and an earned run while striking out 8. Sherman tossed a perfect game vs. Hope International striking out 12 of 15 batters. Sherman was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week. April 10, 2006 ALLIE BOECKELMAN ~ Point Loma Nazarene Sophomore ~ 5-10 ~ C ~ San Diego, California Sophomore Allie Boeckelman hit .538 (7-for-13) at the plate with 3 runs, 3 doubles, 1 homerun, 4 RBI, and caught 4 wins as No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene swept both of its GSAC opponents last week. In the wins at Azusa Pacific, she was 4-for-7 with 2 runs and 2 doubles. In the wins at Biola, Boeckelman was 3-for-6 with 1 run, 1 double, 1 homerun and 3 RBI. Boeckelman was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week. SOFTBALL PITCHER KC ROBERTSON ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Junior ~ 6-0 ~ RHP ~ Newbury Park, California Junior KC Robertson pitched 2 complete-game shutouts for Point Loma Nazarene on the road. For the week she gave up 8 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6 batters. At Azusa Pacific she gave up 5 hits and struck out 4 to earn the win. At No. 17 Biola, Robertson only gave up 3 hits and a walk while striking out 2. Robertson was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week. SOFTBALL PLAYER AMERRA KESTERSON ~ Biola University Junior ~ 5-2 ~ CF ~ Anaheim, California Junior Amerra Kesterson hit a home run in each game of Biola's doubleheader sweep of No. 8-ranked Concordia. For the 2 games, she was 3-for-7 (.429) at the plate with 3 runs, 3 RBI and a stolen base. In the second game, she hit a 2-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. She now has 6 homers, 1 shy of the school record and 14 triples, 2 short of tying the NAIA record. Kesterson was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week. SOFTBALL PITCHER KRISTA MAHAN ~ Vanguard University Sophomore ~ 5-9 ~ RHP ~ Wildomar, California Sophomore Krista Mahan did not allow an earned run in 12.1 innings of work as Vanguard split its doubleheader with No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene. She earned the win in the first game with a 5-hit, 9-inning shutout, her third of the year. In the second game, Mahan pitched 3.1 innings of relief, giving up 4 hits and striking out 1, taking the 4-3 loss on an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mahan was named as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week. April 24, 2006 AMERRA KESTERSON ~ Biola University Junior ~ 5-2 ~ CF ~ Anaheim, California Junior Amerra Kesterson was 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate as Biola won both games of its doubleheader at Azusa Pacific. She scored 3 runs, had 2 RBI and stole a base. With a triple in the second game, she is only 1 away from tying the NAIA record for most triples in a season. Kesterson was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week.
