Junior ~ 5-9 ~ First Base ~ Scottsdale, Arizona

Three-year starter Amy Nanson played a key role in Point Loma Nazarene's 3 victories last week over nationally-ranked teams -- No. 13 Columbia MO and No. 21 Concordia.  She batted .556 (5-for-9) with 3 of her 5 hits going for extra bases (1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run).  She also had 5 RBIs and scored 4 runs, accounting for 8 of the Sea Lions' 17 runs scored.  Nanson
was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week.

KC ROBERTSON ~ Point Loma Nazarene

Sophomore ~ 6-0 ~ RHP ~ Newbury Park, California

Sophomore KC Robertson pitched a pair of 4-hit, complete-game victories last week over No. 21 Concordia and No. 13 Columbia MO.  In 14 innings of work she allowed just 1 earned run (0.50 ERA) while striking out 7 and walking none.  Robertson has now won 4 straight and with the victories moves her record to 12-3 on the season.  Robertson
was named the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week.

SOFTBALL PLAYER
TAMI TRUJILLO ~ California Baptist University
Junior ~ 5-3 ~ Outfielder ~ New Castle, California

Tami Trujillo was 13-for-18 (.722) at the plate last week in leading GSAC frontrunner Cal Baptist to 5 victories in 6 games.  She had 2 doubles, 2 stolen bases, 7 RBIs and 3 home runs, including a 2-run, walk-off round-tripper in the ninth inning to give the Lancers a 2-0 victory and a split with No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene. She homered twice in a sweep of CS San Bernardino, including a game-winning 2-run homer in a 3-2 victory.  Trujillo was chosen as the NAIA Softball Player of the Week.

SOFTBALL PITCHER
NATALIE BROWN ~ Concordia University

Sophomore ~ 5-10 ~ RHP ~ Visalia, California

Natalie Brown picked up 4 victories in 4 complete-game efforts.  She allowed 6 earned runs in 28 innings, striking out 25 while walking 11.  She led the Eagles to an 8-4 victory over the NAIA's No. 3-ranked Simon Fraser BC, striking out 7.  She then held Briarcliffe NY to just 1 run on 3 hits at the Sunwest Tournament at Chapman.  In the Eagles' return to GSAC play, she pitched all 14 innings in a doubleheader sweep of Vanguard, limiting the Lions to just 2 runs while striking out 15.  She fired a 3-hit shutout in the first game.  She now has 256 career strikeouts, including 135 this season, both school records.
  Brown was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week.

SOFTBALL PLAYER
ANGELLA FUNK ~ California Baptist University
Senior ~ 5-8 ~ Catcher ~ Westlake Village, California
Angella Funk was 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate as No. 4-ranked California Baptist won 4 games on the road last week.  For the week, she had a hit in all 4 games and recorded 4 runs, 2 doubles and 9 RBI.  In the wins at Biola, she hit a double to score the winning run in the first game and scored 2 runs on 2 hits in the second game.  In the sweep at Hope International, Funk was 6-for-8 (.750) with a double, 2 runs and 8 RBI.  Funk was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week.

CANDICE THOMAS ~ California Baptist University

Sophomore ~ 5-8 ~ RHP ~ Barstow, California

Candice Thomas picked up a save and 2 wins to extend her record to 19-0 as California Baptist won all 4 of its conference games and remained in first place in the GSAC. 
In 15 innings of work, Thomas did not allow a run and struck out 9 without walking a batter.  In 1 inning of no-hit relief at No. 23-ranked Biola, she earned the save.  In the second game against the Eagles, she pitched a complete game shutout giving up 4 hits while striking out 3.  Thomas again pitched a no-hitter in the second game against Hope International, giving up just 1 hit and striking out 6.
  Thomas was chosen as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week.

April 18, 2005
SOFTBALL PLAYER
AMY NANSON ~ Point Loma Nazarene University
Junior ~ 5-9 ~ 1st Base ~ Scottsdale, Arizona

Junior Amy Nanson was 8-for-13 (.615) at the plate as No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won all 4 of its conference games.  For the week, Nanson had 7 runs, 6 RBI, 2 doubles, a home run and 2 stolen bases, hitting and scoring in all 4 games.   In the doubleheader wins against Hope International, she was 3-for-6 with a double and set a single-season school record with her 7th homerun.  In the 2-game sweep of No. 17-ranked Biola, Nanson collected 5 hits in 7 at bats, scored 4 times, drove in 3, and stole 2 bases.  Nanson
was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week.

SOFTBALL PITCHER
JENNIFER OLVERA ~ Vanguard University

Sophomore ~ 5-7 ~ RHP ~ Gilroy, California

Sophomore Jennifer Olvera started Vanguard on an undefeated streak for the week with a complete-game shutout at No. 22-ranked Azusa Pacific.  Olvera scattered 5 singles over 7 innings, while striking out 10 batters and walking 2.  Olvera also singled in Vanguard's second run of the game.

NICOLE ELLIS ~ Concordia University
Junior ~ 5-4 ~ 2nd Base ~ San Diego, California
Junior Nicole Ellis was 8-for-14 (.571) at the plate last week for No. 13-ranked Concordia.  She had 4 runs, 2 home runs and 8 RBI.  In the split with No. 20-ranked Biola, she was 2-for-5 (.400) with a home run and an RBI.  In the completion of a game started in March, Ellis went 4-for-4 with 2 runs, 1 home run and 6 RBI in the 13-11 loss to No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene.  Then in the doubleheader split at Point Loma, she was 2-for-5 (.400) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.  Ellis was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week.

MARY DINSMORE ~ Biola University
Senior ~ 5-10 ~ RHP ~ Yakima, Washington

Biola senior Mary Dinsmore earned 2 wins last week against ranked teams.  In 10 innings of work, she did not give up an earned run, allowing 11 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9.  Dinsmore pitched a complete-game shutout at No. 13-ranked Concordia, giving up 4 hits and striking out 7.  In Biola's win against No. 23-ranked Azusa Pacific, she allowed 7 hits walked 1 and struck out 2.
   Dinsmore was chosen as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week.

May 2, 2005
SOFTBALL PLAYER
JESSICA MIKESELL ~ Azusa Pacific University
Junior ~ 5-8 ~ 1st Base ~ Covina, California

Junior Jessica Mikesell had 2 game-winning hits in 3 games as Azusa Pacific went 3-1 for the week.  For the week, Mikesell was 5-for-8 (.625) at the plate with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 2 runs scored, 9 RBI and a stolen base.  Against NCAA Div. II UC San Diego, she hit a 2-run double with 1 out in the sixth inning to lift Azusa Pacific to a 3-1 victory and a sweep of the Tritons.  In the second game of a doubleheader split with No. 6-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, Mikesell hit her first-ever grand slam for a 5-0 lead.  After the Sea Lions rallied to tie the game at 5-5, she hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to lead Azusa Pacific to a 8-5 win.  She had a school-record 7 RBI in the game.   Mikesell was named the NAIA Region II Softball Player of the Week.

Sophomore ~ 5-10 ~ RHP ~ Visalia, California

Sophomore Natalie Brown pitched in all 4 of games as Concordia went 3-1 on the week.  For the week, Brown gave up 6 earned runs on 16 hits for a 1.50 ERA while striking out 15 and walking 11 batters.  In a doubleheader sweep of Vanguard, she gave up 4 earned runs and 5 walks while striking out 9.  In a 2-0 shutout of NCAA Div. III No. 4-ranked Chapman, Brown pitched a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts.  In Concordia's only loss of the week, she gave up only 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 5 walks.
  Brown was selected as the NAIA Region II Softball Pitcher of the Week.
