March 28, 2005 BASEBALL PLAYER RICHARD FIXSEN ~ Biola University Junior ~ 5-10 ~ Infielder ~ Vista, California Junior Richard Fixsen helped Biola push its winning streak to 6 straight with 4 more victories last week, including a 3-game sweep of GSAC rival Azusa Pacific. For the week, Fixsen batted .357 (5-for-14) with 2 doubles, a home run and an RBI. He also stole a base and scored 5 runs. His fourth home run of the season, a seventh-inning solo shot, snapped a 2-2 tie and propelled the Eagles to a 5-2 victory in the opening game of the Azusa Pacific series. Fixsen was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER REID HAMBLET ~ Biola University Junior ~ 6-1 ~ RHP ~ Olympia, Washington In his lone appearance of the week, junior Reid Hamblet out-dueled Azusa Pacific's Jason Ray, firing a complete-game (9 innings) 5-hitter in the Eagles' 5-2 victory. Hamblet struck out 10 Cougars and walked just 2 while setting the stage for Biola's eventual 3-game sweep. He allowed 4 singles and improved to 4-2 on the season. Hamblet was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. BASEBALL PLAYER CHRIS WEEMS ~ Biola University Junior ~ 6-1 ~ Shortstop ~ Long Beach, California Chris Weems pushed his hitting streak to 7 straight with at least one hit in all 6 games Biola played in Northern California, 4 of which the Eagles won. He batted .462 (12-for-26) for the week with 2 home runs, 3 doubles and 9 RBIs. In the Eagles' 6-1 victory at Cal State Stanislaus, he was 3-for-5 with a run, 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. He closed the week-long trip with a 3-run home run in a 7-6 win at Sonoma State. Weems was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER MATT THIESSEN ~ California Baptist University Senior ~ 6-0 ~ LHP ~ Riverside, California Matt Thiessen picked up 2 victories in Cal Baptist's 3-0 and 10-6 verdicts over No. 20-ranked Point Loma Nazarene and The Master's, respectively. He worked 16 innings, striking out 16, 8 in each game, while walking 3 and surrendering just 2 earned runs (1.13 ERA). He fired a 9-inning, complete-game shut out in the win over Point Loma, allowing just 5 hits in the process. Thiessen was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. April 11, 2005 BASEBALL PLAYER BRENT DOHLING ~ Concordia University Sophomore ~ 5-10 ~ Outfielder ~ Arcadia, California Brent Dohling was 7-for-16 (.438) at the plate with 6 runs, 4 doubles, 2 home runs, and 6 RBI as Concordia went 2-2 for the week. In the non-conference loss to La Verne, he had a double. In the win at Westmont, Dohling was 2-for-4 with 2 runs, a double, a home run and 3 RBI. In the split with Westmont at home, Dohling was 4-for-8 with 4 runs, 2 doubles, 1 home run and 3 RBI. Dohling was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER JONATHAN WHITE ~ Westmont College Freshman ~ 6-3 ~ RHP ~ Claremont, California Jonathan White was 1-1 with a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings on the mound last week. He gave up 12 hits, 5 earned runs, and 3 walks while striking out 8. In the loss to No. 15-ranked Point Loma Nazarene, he gave up 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs while striking out 4. In Westmont's first conference win of the season, White gave up 2 earned runs on 7 hits and no walks, while striking out 4 at Concordia. White was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Ap BASEBALL PLAYER AARON SEUSS ~ California Baptist University Sophomore ~ 6-0 ~ Outfielder ~ La Quinta, California Sophomore Aaron Seuss homered in 4-of-5 games as California Baptist won 4-of-5 games last week, including a 3-1 record against No. 13-ranked Point Loma Nazarene. For the week, Seuss had 1 double, 4 home runs, 6 runs scored and 8 RBI. In a 16-10 win at CS Dominguez Hills, he had 2 hits, 1 homer, 2 runs and 4 RBI. In the doubleheader split at Point Loma Nazarene, he was 4-for-8 with 2 runs, a double, and a home run. In the 2-game sweep of Point Loma Nazarene at home, Seuss had a home run in each game with 3 total RBIs. Seuss was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER MATT THIESSEN ~ California Baptist University Senior ~ 6-3 ~ LHP ~ Yucaipa, California Senior Matt Thiessen earned a complete-game shutout of No. 13 Point Loma Nazarene. In the 4-0 victory, he gave up 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7. Thiessen was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. A BASEBALL PLAYER ANDY KROEKER ~ Biola University Senior ~ 6-1 ~ Catcher/DH ~ Clovis, California Senior Andy Kroeker was 7-for-11 (.636) at the plate as No. 7-ranked Biola won all 5 of its games against The Master's last week. For the week he scored 5 runs, hit 2 home runs, registered 4 RBI and was walked 10 times (5 intentionally) and once hit by a pitch. In the doubleheader wins over The Master's, Kroeker was 4-for-5 (.800) with 4 runs, 2 homers, 4 RBI and 4 walks. In the 3 games at The Master's on Friday and Saturday, he was 3-for-6 (.500) with 1 run and 6 walks. Biola has now clinched the GSAC championship. Kroeker was chosen as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER JEFF TEASLEY ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Senior ~ 6-6 ~ RHP ~ San Diego, California Senior Jeff Teasley pitched a 7-inning complete-game shutout at Vanguard. In the 1-0 victory, he gave up 2 hits and no walks while striking out 8. Poti was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. May 2, 2005 BASEBALL PLAYER JOHN ENGERS ~ Point Loma Nazarene University Senior ~ 6-1 ~ Outfielder ~ Danville, California Senior John Engers was 6-for-13 (.462) at the plate as No. 19-ranked Point Loma Nazarene won all 4 of its GSAC games last week. For the week, he had a double, 2 home runs, 5 runs scored, 8 RBI, and a stolen base. Both of his homers gave the Sea Lions the lead after trailing in the respective games. In the win against Vanguard, he was 2-for-3 (.667) with a double, a home run, and 3 RBI. In the 3-game sweep at Concordia, he was 4-for-10 (.400) with a run in each game, 1 home run, and 5 RBI. Engers was named the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER BRIAN GRIJALVA ~ The Master's College Sophomore ~ 6-2 ~ RHP ~ Redlands, California Sophomore Brian Grijalva pitched a 7-inning complete-game shutout against Azusa Pacific to hand the Cougars their first shutout and snap APU's 59-game scoring streak. In the game, he gave up 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 to record his first-ever shutout. Gor was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Grijalva was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. May 9, 2005 BASEBALL PLAYER SCOTT HODSDON ~ Azusa Pacific University Sophomore ~ 6-2 ~ Shortstop ~ Rancho Cucamonga, CA Sophomore Scott Hodsdon was 6-for-18 (.429) at the plate as Azusa Pacific ended its season with a 3-game sweep of Westmont. For the week, Hodsdon scored 8 runs, to go along with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 7 RBI and 2 steals. In Thursday's single game, he had 2 hits, 4 runs, 1 home run, 3 RBI and a steal. Hodsdon had a pair of game-winning hits in Friday's doubleheader sweep of Westmont, including an eighth-inning RBI double in the opener and a ninth-inning 1-out double in the nightcap. He also tossed 2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing 1 hit, to pick up the win in the nightcap. Hodsdon was selected as the NAIA Region II Baseball Player of the Week. BASEBALL PITCHER ZACH PETTIKAS ~ Azusa Pacific University Freshman ~ 6-1 ~ LHP ~ Yorba Linda, CA Freshman Zach Pettikas earned the win in Azusa Pacific's 17-2 victory over Westmont. In the 8 innings of work, Pettikas gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 8 and walking 1. He had a no-hitter through 7.1 innings.
